Kate Atkinson wears Julie Goodwin Couture to the Logie Awards
Over the years, I’ve dressed some incredible women.
I’ve designed outfits for everyday mothers, influential professionals, elated brides and fashion-forward females. I love dressing my regular clients just as much as I love dressing public personalities. When a woman like Kate Atkinson calls and needs a dress for the Logie Awards though, I get really excited.
Kate is nominated for the Most Outstanding Actress Award for her role in the Australian TV drama series, Wentworth, and dressing her means so much more to me than just having a Julie Goodwin Couture gown on the red carpet.
She’s an accomplished actor with a strong sense of herself, and she knows her likes and dislikes. She is extremely committed to her work, and it’s a trait that I both admire and relate to. I’ve been working with her over the past few weeks to design her Logies dress, and I’ve come to know the woman behind the screen.
I’ve watched Kate in MTC productions over the years, and it’s been such a pleasure getting to know her outside of her character roles. She’s entrusted me to design a dress that will be seen as she (fingers crossed) steps up for her award, and it’s a responsibility that I deeply value.
Designing the dress
We’ve worked together on all the details, from choosing her luxury cashmere, silk and wool blend Dormeuil fabric, to finalising the chic and clean silhouette. Kate feels most comfortable with a little coverage, so I’ve designed floaty silk chiffon sleeves and finished the look with a hand-beaded waistband and cuffs.
It’s very Audrey Hepburn with a boat neck, a nipped waist and a slim-fitting design, and the warm winter whites compliment the metallic and crystal beads. Regardless of the results of award, Kate is going to steal the show.
As the 60th annual Logie Awards quickly approaches and I’m finishing up the last few details on Kate’s dress, it’s all a little surreal.
Fashion has changed so much in 60 years, from Kylie Minogue’s home-sewn red carpet dress to Carrie Bickmore’s statement blue beanie; the Logies are an incredible display of Australian talent, Australian fashion, and Australian women in their most powerful moments.
