Daina Reid is one of Australia’s most talented directors, and a Julie Goodwin Couture muse

by Julie Goodwin, / Tuesday October 6th 2020

It’s been a little over a year since Daina Reid graced the purple carpet in her bespoke Julie Goodwin Couture outfit, but the feeling is as fresh as ever, and seeing her interviewed for last Saturday’s Good Weekend brought it all back with a rush.

I popped over to L.A last year to soak up the moment and it’s one of my proudest to date, but it wasn’t just about the EMMYs purple carpet and the glitz and glam of it all. It was about seeing a woman I admire and respect for her creativity and her talent wear Julie Goodwin Couture during one of her own proudest moments.

Daina is one of our country’s most talented directors, and she’s set a strong example for Australian women taking on the world. Female directors have more than doubled their share of television episodes in the last five years, but it’s still very much a male-dominated industry for TV and film.

Statistics have never stopped Daina though, and she’s been making her mark locally for decades. She’s responsible for household titles you’ll most likely have loved – The Secret Life of Us, Paper Giants, and Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS.

When she took her talents to the world and played her part in The Handmaid’s Tale, she had an EMMY award nominee impact, and she chose Julie Goodwin Couture to wear for the big event. It was a big moment for both of us, and for female creatives everywhere.

Powerful, talented, beautiful, strong, creative, determined… These are the traits that Daina embodies and the traits that define my high-profile muses and my everyday clients alike.

It’s what I love most about my work; giving women – no matter who they are – the invaluable feeling of confidence and comfort in their own skin.
