Autumn Forecast from VAMFF

by Julie Goodwin, / Thursday March 7th 2019

I was lucky enough to see not one but four fashion parades this week as VAMFF hit Melbourne for 2019.

The air is abuzz with expectation and the people-watching is next level at these events – they are a whole lot of fun.

Fashion is so diverse right now, and these shows were no exception- I was mesmerized by the theatre and intimacy of Estelle Michaelides’ ‘Voices of the River’ show, blown away by the range of ethical and sustainable options at The Fashion Advocate’s ‘Identity’ runway, encouraged to shop ‘til I drop at the David Jones Gala runway, and I gasped at Akira Isogawa’s perfection (among others) at Runway 2. All in only 3 days! Phew.

Themes were many and varied, and I don’t know if it’s just my natural inclination, but my take-homes this time were volume and layers in coating, and a strong jacket game for Autumn/Winter.

Here are a couple of my favourites from the international runways – which sadly, I did NOT get to – to illustrate my point.

I don’t do alterations, but they are central to my philosophy, and here’s a pile I did last week.
