My favourite looks from Haute Couture Fashion Week 2019
Naturally, I am drawn to Haute Couture. It’s the oldest art in the fashion handbook. I am a lover of all things lace, delicate beading, and a carefully placed pleat, but every now and again, I push the boundaries of tradition.
It might be for a wedding, a special event, or a particular custom order; whoever I’m dressing and whatever it’s for, I do love challenging myself and combining fashion with art. I think every designer occasionally does.
In the wake of Haute Couture Fashion Week, I’ve been scrolling and pinning my favourite looks, from boundary-pushing breathtaking gowns to million-dollar settings, and it’s been a week of stunning details.
Viktor & Rolf
Viktor & Rolf made a strong statement, and it’s one that I understand. Slow and considered fashion is in, and fast fashion is out (well, it is on its way anyway). I love that Viktor & Rolf balance femininity with strength through the illustrated word, and it’s something I am passionate about communicating through my work too. Dressing for your body and honouring your values is something you can own entirely, and I am proud to be a part of that process when I make clothing for all kinds of women.
Alexandre Vauthier
Alexandre Vauthier is a designer after my own heart, and we all know that a white suit is the ultimate investment outfit in every woman’s wardrobe. It might be simple, and it mightn’t be a loud statement, but it is a timeless one, and it is a look that never loses its value.
Dior
Dior never ceases to amaze me either, but I was surprised to see a sheer polka dot sleeve on the runway having just collaborated with Lady Melbourne on a look very similar for Derby Day last year. Perhaps I’m ahead of my time, or maybe the bell-sleeve is on its way in; either way, a little skin in the right place and a subtle polka dot is always a delicate touch.
